Greenwood at last

Today we arrived in Greenwood around 12:30pm. First thing we did of course was stop by Rosie's house, Prisclla's sister. It was a joyful reuniion. Then we called our realtor Kristen and she met us at our new house. Kristen and Rosie had put flower arrangements and balloons around the house both outside and inside. They were both worried, that because we had never actually seen the house except for photos and their input, that we wouldn't like it. It is a beautiful house!!!! Exactly what we expectd and need in for our retirement. The next thing we did was go to lunch and celebrate! Then of couse we went shopping for various things for the house. This evening we went to dinner with Manolo, Rosie and Manolo's Mother Dona Annieat at Outback Steakhouse. It was a good evening. We are tired along with Calvin so we are back at the hotel. Tomorrow we have to get utilities changed over and are already receiving mail at our new address. We talked to both our daughters tonight about the Chino earthquake, a 5.8, and all is well. A nice ending to a perfect day.

Goodnight and God Bless

Bremen, Georgia

650 miles today, 225 to go to Greenwood, SC. We're about 50 miles west of Atlanta. Couldn't go any further - Calvin said that's it. He had to eat. We drove through Arkansas, Tennessse, Mississippi, Alabama and ended here in Georgia. I don't think we could have gotten through Memphis without the GPS unit. It was crazy with construction and traffic. Again, beautiful weather and scenery.

We have just ordered Papa John's pizza for delivery and are recuperating from the drive. Gas is 3.69 a gallon here.

We should arrive in Greenwood by noon tomorrow.

That's all for now folks......

God Bless

Fort Smith, Arkansas

Another 625 miles and 850 to go!

We had a beautiful drive today. It started out cloudy and with a little rain, lightning and thunder, the remnants of Hurricane Dolly. We had an early start at 7:30am from Santa Rosa, NM and the sky cleared by the time we reached the east side of Amarillo, TX. As you know all Texans brag about how big everything is in Texas and we can vouch for their rest stops. They were enormous with even BBQ grills shaped like the state of Texas. In Amarillo there is a hotel, the Horse Hotel, that offers free 72oz steaks when you board your horse.

Then we entered Oklahoma which was prettier than we expected. We even saw the sign for the Pottowome indian tribe that Fr. Joe sometimes quotes in his sermons. Gas is as low as $3.59 here in Arkansas. We passed a large resevoir called Eufaula Resevior, and next to it was an exit road named "Latawatah Rd".

When we drove through the panhandle of Texas we gave Paul and Teresa Koehler a call and Pauls recovery is progressing as expected. We couldn't visit because Corpus Christi is about 800 miles from Amarillo.

Attached to the left is a photo of Calvin about 100 miles west of Ft. Smith, lookin good!

We plan on doing about 600 miles tomorrow with 250 left for Tuesday.

God Bless to All

Santa Rosa, NM

Wow!!! 597 miles today. We got up at 6am and left Kingman at 7:30am. We had a wonderful drive through Arizona -Seligman, Williams, Flagstaff, Winslow, Holbrook, New Mexico - Gallup, Albuquerque and finally Santa Rosa. We had lunch at a rest stop, Calvin slept the whole 600 miles except for a coupe of pit stops. We had a great TexMex dinner at the Route 66 restaurant in Santa Rosa(pop. 2300) and now are unwinding. Priscilla is watching TV with Calvin by her side. Tomorrow we hope to make Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.

To our grandkids Carissa, Brandon, Logan and Gage - we saw some beautiful country today and went through some terrific thunderstorms. We saw some horses, cows, and mesas in New Mexico. Ask your Mom's what mesas are. Love you all and miss you already!

On the way to San Jose, oops, I mean Greenwood, SC

Well, today we left California on our way to Greenwood, South Carolina. This morning the movers came and loaded the moving van with all the stuff we're taking. Melanie, our youngest daughter came over and helped us clean house. We departed after a dear farewell to Melanie and drove up the 215 to Rt 40 in Barstow and then continued on to Kingman, Arizona where we're spending the night. Calvin, our 15 year old dachsund, slept almost the whole way. We ordered take out dinners at JBs restaurant here in Kingman. I had pot roast, mashed potatoes, vegetables, a nice salad with blue cheese dressing and Priscy had chicken fried steak, rice pilaf, vegetables. Calvin had chicken and rice. We're all full!!! Calvin's in the process of having a sniff test of our room.
